Officially started in 2018, aCreators'Collection is the first project I ever started. Initially born out of the ideas I had about art and the world which got me to move to NYC in the first place. A “multi” and “inter” disciplinary grassroots art movement, meant to give arts and creators of all mediums a platform to showcase their work in both the physical and digital worlds. This project took on many forms from my first website (which got hacked and destroyed back in late 2022), to public events, to video showcases during Covid (MultimediaMixtapes), to our own physical brick and mortar studio (The Space), and of course our world famous Paint and Jam “The Haven Jam”. This project is technically laying dormant currently, but has always been the “Umbrella Corp” for Community Art Events I put on.
Early Days: Initial Ideas and Events
Like any ambitious young adult looking to take on the world, many early ideas of aCreators'Collection had a touch of grandiosity to them. We wanted to change the world through Art and Music. Wanted to bring people together, and provide people with an opportunity to showcase who they were and what they thought. That anything could be Art is someone believed it was. And that if you believed it was Art, that we would provide you with an Opportunity to show it.
We started a website that provided artists (of any and all mediums) to showcase and sell their work, and we started running public events to do the same. We ran our first public event (not in my apt) in October 2018 with 10 Visual Artists, 10 Musical Acts, 2 Poets, and a Comedian (we know now that was too much, but honestly the first event was awesome).
Multimedia Mixtapes
Officially started in 2020, Multimedia Mixtapes was born out of the question of “How do we take our physical Art Shows and bring them to the people?". Couple that question (which I had been experimenting with for a couple years) with the constrictions of the Covid-19 Pandemic in NYC (10 people in a room), and Multimedia Mixtapes is born. A Public Access Television Show featuring Artist Interviews, Live Performance Videos, and our signature “Set Up and Jam” intro where we get a look behind the scenes of setting up the set (hanging the art installations, and plotting the instruments) and score the process with live music. 7 episodes were made in total (so far…)
