One of my least favorite stereotypes/ideas/ideologies/philosophies/things associated with the Art and Creative world is the idea of “The Starving Artist”. In that it’s okay (and arguably encouraged) to sacrifice eating food and just food in general “for your Art”. Or even to go so far into the idea, that you’re not an Artist unless you starve for your Art. Please….
So this is just a friendly reminder to Eat (and Sleep). You’re mind operates so much better when you do.
You’re not a better Artist, Entrepreneur, Creative, etc. because you can skip more meals and sleep less than everyone else. You’re better when you have more creative ideas, which come easier when you eat and sleep properly. So whether it’s Time, Money, Figure, Ability to Cook, or whatever excuse Creatives find to not eat, stop it, take care of your body, and eat.
I plan on writing a lot more based on the ideas and topics surrounding “The (Not So) Starving Artist”, I’m quite passionate about the idea. So stay tuned. But I just wanted the first one to be a simple and friendly reminder to take care of your body.
Disclaimer: I am more than well aware of the actual hunger problem that exists in not only the US, but around the world. It’s absolutely terrible, and as I gain resources and abilities to help that problem, I plan on doing so. I already do what I can. This idea of “The (Not So) Starving Artist” is more about those that make an active choice against food/eating, not for those that have that idea (hunger/starvation) imposed upon them.
Don’t get me wrong, have I skipped a meal or two? You’re damn right (I was young and dumb once, and arguably still can be at times).
