From Bears, Bees, Bats, Squirrels, Insects, Plants, Trees, Bacteria, to Creative Minds. Winter Hibernation and Dormancy happens to them all. It’s only natural. And after “Waking from hibernation, the hard work of spring begins… and after spending a season in slow motion, that requires some ramping up” (New York Times).
Springtime magic doesn’t just happen. Even though we associate Spring and Green with Late March/Early April (fun fact: the first day of Spring this year is March 19th), most hibernating animals and plants start ramping up and preparing for the new season in Early February/March. (Which I think is a pretty beautiful real life metaphor for people tending to only acknowledge the end product and not the work put in to get to the end product).
So if you’ve felt like a hermit, felt dormant, or feel like you’ve been in a state of creative hibernation over these past winter months, don’t beat yourself up, some of the hardest working species in the world do the same thing, it’s only natural.
But now is the time to wake up, acclimate your body and mind back into the full swing of things, and get to work! Each animal/species/plant/etc. has its own unique way of ramping up and getting ready for the Spring. Find yours, and get out of hibernation and the mindset of waiting out the winter, and get ready for your new season of Life!
