Upon Reflecting on Nature and Creativity

I just got back from an impromptu four day road trip around New England. From Brooklyn, through New Jersey and Pennsylvania to Upstate New York and the Great Lakes (Erie and Ontario) and Niagara Falls. Then over through Vermont and New Hampshire on the way to the Coast of Maine and the Atlantic Ocean. Then finally down through Massachusetts and Connecticut back home to Brooklyn.

It was the first time I had been out of the city since early June and the Saratoga Trip. And I was long past due to get away from the city and to put some nature in my life.

I’m a huge nature buff and get rejuvenation, energy, and inspiration from being in it (as most/all humans do).

Research shows that spending time in nature improves creativity and creative thinking. (Just type in “Nature and Creativity” into google and you’ll be blown away)

But it’s something that can easily fall to the wayside, and be pushed aside for “later”, especially when you’re busy or stressed (or are living in a [gigantic] city).

It’s counterintuitive to take time away from what you need to get done, or what you want to do, in order to just be in nature.

But trust me (or the countless research studies done on the subject) when I say it’s indescribably worth it.

So go on a walk, sit in a park, put your feet in the dirt, go to the beach, take an impromptu road trip or vacation, or however you like to take in nature.

It’ll do you (and your work) wonders.
