This is one of my favorite terms and I’m very proud to say that I have to give a big shout out to my mama (shellienelson.com) for coining it.
Transformation Amnesia, is a relatively self explanatory idea. But essentially it speaks to the idea that as we grow and change as individuals, we tend to forget how we used to operate and behave.
(A classic example of this is when people go back through their old Facebook (or other social media) posts and are shocked (and sometimes even mortified) by what they used to think and say to the world.)
Transformation Amnesia is something that I constantly try to keep in mind, so as to give myself credit for what I’ve already done.
We all grow and change as individuals, and we can sometimes be so focused on where we are going, who we want to become, and what we want to do next, that we can completely forget just how far we’ve come and all of the massive shifts we have already undergone.
So take a moment and give yourself credit for all you have already done. And when you think about all of that, it makes it easier to take that next step forward.
You’re probably even more amazing than you give yourself credit for.
